Why the set exists. John Deere deliberately splits technical documentation into two volumes, and neither is complete on its own. TM2280 Operation and Test teaches you to diagnose: how each system works, what pressures and voltages to measure, and which test sequence isolates a fault. TM2270 Repair teaches you to fix: teardown, wear limits, torque figures and reassembly. Buy only the repair volume and you can rebuild a component you did not need to touch. Buy only the diagnostic volume and you can identify a failure you have no procedure to correct.
TM2280 Operation and Test covers pressure testing on the hydraulic circuit and the IVT transmission, reading fault codes from the CommandCenter display, charging and starting circuit checks, cab climate system tests, and the calibration procedures.
TM2270 Repair covers PowerTech engine repair, IVT and PowerShift transmission teardown and rebuild, independent link suspension (ILS) front axle repair, hydraulic cylinder rebuild, and torque specifications by group.
Machine coverage: the 8130, 8230, 8330, 8430 and 8530 row-crop tractors. These are the 30-series machines — the earlier 8110 to 8410 tractors are covered by different manuals (TM1796 and TM1797) and share very little of this documentation.
Not included: the parts catalogue with Deere order numbers and the operator’s manual, both published separately by John Deere.
